    Services

      Actions

Recognised by the Wallonie-Bruxelles Federation as part of Continuing Education (EP) since 2010, Le Monde des Possibles works to provide continuing education (for the general public) focused on the self-socioconstruction of knowledge, drawing on the experiences of participants in the fight against injustice and dissatisfaction, as expressed in our daily actions.

The aim is for migrants to increase their knowledge of issues that directly concern them (‘Nothing about us without us’), so that the experiences of participants become a source of proposals and action with our partners in Liège.

        Mission and objectives

Our EP workshops cover the various areas described in ‘the possibilities’ below, as well as the association’s projects.

This approach is also integrated into our organizational functioning, based on hybrid shared governance.

We comply with Article 1 of the decree promoting a bottom-up methodology, as outlined on the Continuing Education website of the Wallonie-Bruxelles Federation.

An awareness and critical understanding of the realities of society

The ability to analyse, choose, act and evaluate for participants

Attitudes of active participation in social, economic, cultural and political life

The association’s continuing education activities are also based on advocacy work carried out by the socio-legal service and the housing service:

        • Ensuring a high-quality welcome
        • Promoting access to healthcare
        • Promoting access to decent housing
        • Promoting access to permanent residence permits
        • Promoting access to high-quality employment
        • Contributing to the fight against discrimination/racism
        • Defending women’s rights
        • Defending LGBTQIA+ rights
        • Promoting multilingualism
        • Combating the digital divide
        • Fighting in a unified manner against different systems of oppression

Continuing education is therefore inseparable from the other areas of action of the Le Monde des Possibles, such as l’accompagnement socioprofessionnel, l’économie sociale et solidaire, and l’inclusion linguistique.

        Target audience

People of foreign origin and people in precarious situations.

These are mainly people seeking international protection or recognised as refugees under the Geneva Convention, or undocumented migrants. More than 200 people per week from 50 different countries participate in our activities. They face difficulties such as learning a new language, living in substandard housing, and struggling to find decent work, have their qualifications recognised, or obtain asylum.

One example is the Dazibao project, which has been running since 2009 with people seeking international protection – https://dazibao.possibles.org/

        Process

The processes underway reflect the association’s potential as outlined in its 20-year plan for 2021.

        1. 1. Cosmopolitanism; unhindered movement of exiled persons, and the end of the Dublin Regulation.
        2. 2. A migration policy that respects fundamental rights, with clear criteria for regularization and an independent, permanent commission.
        3. 3. The closure of detention centers, the end of deportations, and the end of the criminalization of undocumented immigrants.
        4. 4. Rethinking borders, combating security-focused and repressive approaches.
        5. 5. Representation of migrants in authorities that affect them
        6. 6. The socioeconomic empowerment of migrant women and strengthening the fight against gender-based violence.
        7. 7. Respect for the rights of unaccompanied foreign minors—support for migrant parents and their children, particularly in a fair school system.
        8. 8. The assurance of access to decent housing, the “right to individual well-being and common goods” (RWLP).
        9. 9. Compliance with international conventions for decent and quality employment.
        10. 10. Socio-professional integration policies that recognize the skills and talents of migrant workers for their own fulfillment and not to address labor shortages.
        11. 11. Increase the number of social innovation hubs that promote interculturalism, the social economy, and citizen participation.
        12. 12. Inclusion policies that value migrants’ native languages and cultural content, and tailor the “integration process” to the needs of newcomers.
        13. 13. Activist arts that give us the strength to act—civil disobedience & new forms of resistance.
        14. 14. Companies that represent intercultural diversity and are open to new talent.
        15. 15. A media scene that presents a positive discourse on migration, which “values the social contribution” of foreigners.
        16. 16. Expand legal and safe migration pathways, including protection for climate refugees.
        17. 17. Defending a society or integration gives way to inclusion, with a secularism of inclusion.
        18. 18. Alternative spaces where new forms of solidarity can flourish—citizen assemblies capable of evaluating and creating law.
        19. 19. Reduce and regulate the arms trade, in compliance with—at a minimum—international humanitarian law and existing conventions.
        20. 20. Your potential?
