Pamoja, which means “together” in Swahili, is an intercultural project led by Le Monde des Possibles to combat racism and promote inclusion beyond traditional activation approaches. This project highlights the testimonies of people from African diasporas, offering an alternative gateway to the process of inclusion through culture and personal expression.
Through theater workshops and philosophical discussions, participants explore the realities of migration and the lingering effects of colonial history. These workshops highlight individual stories while encouraging critical reflection on systems of discrimination and their impact on contemporary Belgian society. Free expression and active participation are at the heart of this approach, contributing to participants empowerment and resilience.
Pamoja positions itself as a form of cultural and political resistance. By celebrating cultural identities without reducing them to stereotypes, the project promotes constructive intercultural exchanges and raises public awareness of historical and current issues surrounding racism.
The Pamoja project aims to provide spaces for expression and reflection to encourage active participation and highlight the stories of African diasporas. Its objectives include:
- Promoting cultural identities: Encourage participants to share their heritage without limiting themselves to folkloric representations.
- Raising awareness among young people: Addressing colonial history and its lasting impacts to develop critical thinking among younger generations.
- Promoting intercultural exchange: Providing a space for inclusive and respectful dialogue between migrants and indigenous people.
- Encouraging personal expression: Highlighting individual stories through theater and philosophy workshops.
- Strengthening resilience: Increasing the empowerment and capacity for action of African diasporas in the face of discrimination.
With Pamoja, Le Monde des Possibles is committed to creating a collective dynamic of resistance and dialogue to build a more equitable society.
